I’m going to detail what has worked for me and my associates. They can be done at home without the need for equipment. All you need is to practice these methods consistently. The more you do them, the better you get at preventing and coping with your panic attacks.
How to Cope with Panic Attacks – It’s all in the mind
Try and remove all negative thoughts from your mind. Impossible right? It isn’t really practical advice to tell you to not have negative thoughts. Scientists believe that we have approximately 60,000 thoughts a day. 60,0000! That is an incredible number to try to wrap your head around. With this many thoughts, some negative ones are bound to creep in.
The creeping in part isn’t the problem. It’s the sticking around and leading to other more negative thoughts that lead to uncertainty that then lead to panic attacks that’s the problem.
Hope I haven’t confused you.
The secret to coping with your anxiety is to realize the negativity of the thoughts, realize that the thoughts can lead to an episode and replace the thought with something more pleasant. This becomes a lot easier with practice.
Coping with Anxiety through meditation
Coping with anxiety attacks becomes a lot easier if you practice and get good at these methods before the onset of an attack. See if you learn to relax this will help to ward off or prevent attacks but becomes exponentially more difficult if you are already in the midst of an attack.
This would include meditation, deep breathing and muscle relaxation.
Practice meditating twice a day… upon waking and just before going to bed. Start off with 15 minutes. Control your thoughts. Keep them peaceful in nature. Then be conscious of your breathing. Push your stomach out while in your inhaling, hold the breath for a few seconds then exhale. Then work on your muscle relaxation. Feel your muscles getting relaxed from your feet up to your head.
You could easily spend 30 minutes and not be aware of the time while in this relaxed state.
Again if your mind is spiraling out of control, trying to breathe deeply, while it may work for a rare few, may not be effective due to how far along you are in the process. This will greatly assist in the prevention of panic attacks if practiced consistently.
Coping with Social Anxiety through exercise
Just wanted to get off the mind and onto the body here. You can begin coping with your social anxiety more effectively if you can control your body. Working out whether in a gym or at home releases endorphins aka the feel good chemical.
Exercise has been reported to reduce stress by as much as 50%. It also increases energy which allows us to tackle all that we need to during the day.
If you aren’t the weight lifting type you could try aerobics or going in the other direction yoga.
The point is to keep moving. Keeping active will help you better cope with your anxiety.
Coping with anxiety doesn’t have to be stressful.
